The mechanical-pneumatic spool valve is a simple yet effective solution. The level is constantly scanned by a plunger. The plunger position is transmitted to a slide valve. Depending on the slide valve position, pressure is applied to the air spring or the inside pressure is reduced. Levelness can be maintained at an accuracy ± 0.004″ (± 0.1 mm, ±100µ). Principally three level control valves are used. A filter-regulator with water trap is installed to limit system pressure to a maximum of 6 bar, remove water vapor and remove dust and any foreign bodies from the air supply.
Optional:
For applications that are required to maintain a level surface with dynamic COG-Center of Gravities. For example, CMM-Coordinate Measuring Machines, and EDM-Electrical Discharge Machines. Also, X-Y stages installed on a granite plate.
The mechanical-pneumatic relief valves are a simple yet effective solution for maintaining accurate level control. The height of the plunger (air spring) is constantly transmitted to the slide valve. Depending on the position of the slide valve, three things can happen: 1) additional air pressure will be applied to the air spring (increasing the height of air spring), or 2) the internal air spring pressure will be reduced (decreasing the height of air spring), or 3) the internal air spring pressure will be maintained (maintaining the height of air spring). The level accuracy of the valve is ± 0.004″ (±0.1 mm). None to very little air is by-passed thru the LCV valve. On request, valves with higher accuracies are available (MPN-PVM). These valves require a constant, small amount of air to pass thru the valve. These valve can be supplied with a ported exhaust valve option for operation in Cleanrooms and other similar environments.
Three points make a plane. Principally three level control valves are installed on three or more air springs. Note: Two or more air springs can be grouped together and operated off of one level control valve in a Master/Slave arrangement.
An air filter/regulator assembly is installed upstream of these valves to limit the system pressure to a maximum of 87 psi (6 bar). The assembly includes a pressure gauge and a water trap to remove water, oil, and other contaminants from the compressed air to protect the level control valve.
