CMM – Coordinate Measuring Machine

New Coordinate Measuring Machines – CMM designs are continually improving their accuracy and speed of operation.  Vibrations have a negative effect on the accuracy of CMMs.  Most CMM manufactures provide their customers with the maximum allowable vibrations that their equipment can withstand and still operate properly.  Bilz Vibration Technology can provide a Vibration Site Survey that measures the actual floor vibrations. The Bilz survey includes a complete report that graphically shows you the measured vibration levels and compares them to the maximum allowable vibrations.  Customers can easily see if a vibration isolation system is needed for the CMM to operate within its specifications at the desired installation site.

The application of CMMs has been evolving from quality control to process control.  In the past, CMMs have mainly been installed in the company’s Quality Control Lab.  These labs were typically located in an area of the building that had the least amount of floor vibrations.  However, in recent years, CMMs have been installed directly on the manufacturing floor, close to stamping presses, CNC machining operations, and other machinery that generates vibrations.  The manufacturing floor has much higher floor vibrations, which typically requires the CMM to have a vibration isolation system to perform to specifications.

Bilz has a variety of products to attenuate (reduce) the vibrations that typically effect the performance of CMMs. These products include: 1) Bilz BiAir® low natural frequency membrane air springs with self-leveling control system; 2) Bilz Faebi® rubber air springs with or without a self-leveling control system; 3) Bilz EPPC-Electro-Pneumatic Position Control system, and 4) Bilz Active Isolation System-AIS™.

Surface Finish Measuring / Roundness and Cylindricity Tester

Surface Finish, Roundness, and Cylindricity measurements can be done with a variety of Profiling Instruments including: 1)  Non-Conventional, Non-Contact; 2) Stylus Instruments; 3) Optical Instruments such as Interferometers and confocal microscopes; and 4) Scanning Microscopy Instruments such as SEM-Scanning Electron Microscope, STM-Scanning Tunneling Electron Microscope, and AFM-Atomic Force Microscope.  Each of these instruments are negatively effected by vibrations.
